About

Hossein Kaveh, working under the name KAVEH, is an Iranian visual artist working across painting, sculpture, photography and design. A graduate in Industrial Design, Kaveh has over twenty years of professional experience in visual arts, photography, graphic design, performing arts and visual production — an interdisciplinary background that has shaped both his visual language and the conceptual structure of his work.

At the center of Kaveh’s practice is the concept of Evolution — treated not as a biological process alone, but as a metaphor for the uninterrupted transformation of humanity, nature, identity and civilization. His work explores the boundaries between reality, imagination, symbol and metaphor, focusing on power, wisdom, time, freedom, survival, identity, fragility, and humanity’s complex relationship with nature. In Kaveh’s visual universe, humans, animals, plants, objects and man-made forms move away from their familiar identities and enter processes of metamorphosis, hybridization and redefinition.

KAVEH’s work has been shown in exhibitions, biennials and international art fairs in the United Kingdom, France, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Iran, in cities including London, Bristol, Dubai, Ankara, Izmir, Argenteuil, Tehran, Isfahan and Arak. Artist Statement — Evolution

For me, evolution is the story of a change that never ends.

The world is in constant transformation, and human beings are an inseparable part of that process. We adapt to our surroundings, lose certain traits, gain new ones, and at every stage become a different version of ourselves. But evolution does not always mean progress — sometimes what we gain in order to survive takes away a part of what we once were.

My work is born from exactly this contradiction. In my visual universe, humans, animals, plants, objects and man-made forms lose their fixed boundaries and enter processes of metamorphosis, hybridization and redefinition. Living beings take on one another’s traits, objects become living entities, and elements belonging to different times and realities come together in new structures.

These transformations are not merely formal experiments. Every change carries a question with it: what have we gained and what have we lost on the journey of evolution? To survive, humankind altered nature, built tools, founded civilizations, and redesigned the world around it — but was itself transformed by the world it created. Within this cycle, the boundary between the one who transforms and the one being transformed gradually blurs.

For this reason, evolution in my work is not a linear process moving from the primitive toward the perfect. I see evolution as an endless web made up of survival, selection, adaptation, power, fragility, decay and rebirth. The unusual relationships between the hybrid beings in my work offer glimpses of possible worlds, in which past, present and future exist simultaneously, and every being carries the traces of the choices and transformations that came before it.

My work does not attempt to predict the future of evolution. Instead, it asks a question about the moment we are in now: if evolution is still underway, what are we becoming now?
