Jason Moran: STACKS at Luhring Augustine, New York — 6 Nov–19 Dec 2026

Jason Moran, STACKS – Ascending/Descending, 2026, stacked upright pianos sculpture, Luhring Augustine, New York, 2026

Luhring Augustine presents “STACKS”, the third solo exhibition at the gallery by jazz pianist, composer and visual artist Jason Moran. At its centre is a sculpture of two upright parlor pianos stacked one on top of the other — a domestic instrument turned into architecture. Around it, works on paper record Moran’s playing directly: he coats a keyboard in powdered pigment and presses it onto thin Japanese Gampi paper, so that chords, repeated phrases and silences become marks and spaces. The show also includes jazz objects from the artist’s collection and a new video made with photographer and filmmaker Ari Marcopoulos.
