Donyel Ivy-Royal: By the time the rain comes, we will be home at Jack Shainman Gallery, New York — 5 Nov–19 Dec 2026

Jack Shainman Gallery presents By the time the rain comes, we will be home, the first exhibition with the gallery of Brooklyn-based painter Donyel Ivy-Royal (born 1993, Portland, Oregon), who joined its roster in January 2026. Oil paintings and ink drawings start from photographs of the cities he has lived in, street life and time with friends, then are layered, scraped and rebuilt until figures, buildings and landscapes hover between recognition and abstraction. At the centre of the space, a dividing wall becomes an architectural façade combining a fresco with materials from the studio and the street.
