Santi Moix: El rapte d’Europa at Galeria Marc Domènech, Barcelona — 12 Nov–30 Dec 2026

Galeria Marc Domènech presents “El rapte d’Europa” (The Abduction of Europa), the gallery’s first exhibition of Santi Moix, the Barcelona-born painter who has lived and worked in New York since 1986. The show brings together 21 paintings and six works on paper, most made in the last two years, threaded through the ancient myth of Europa as a lens on European culture — its long artistic tradition as well as its tensions, seductions and deceptions. Organic forms, textiles, flowers, signs and arabesques interlock in intensely coloured compositions that suggest associations rather than a fixed narrative. In works such as Miracle of Saint Mark II (2025–26), Moix reworks Tintoretto’s Miracle of the Slave, keeping its composition and energy while translating them into organic rhythms; Fortuny, Delacroix, Miró, Gauguin and Rothko are other touchstones. An audiovisual piece made for the show and a trilingual catalogue with a long conversation with the artist accompany the exhibition.
