Frieze Week Returns: What to Expect From Frieze London and Frieze Masters 2026

For five days every October, The Regent’s Park in London splits into two temporary cities of art. Frieze London and Frieze Masters, running 14 to 18 October 2026, together pull in several hundred galleries from dozens of countries, and with them the collectors, curators, and museum acquisition committees who use the week to decide what belongs in the next decade of public and private collections. Frieze London, entered from Park Square West, shows contemporary work by living artists; Frieze Masters, a short shuttle ride away at Gloucester Green near London Zoo, deals in everything from antiquities to twentieth-century masters. The split lets a single visit move from a gallery’s newest discovery to a work already inside art history, often in the same afternoon.

The fair began in 2003, launched by the founders of Frieze magazine as a way to bring the London gallery scene’s energy into a single tented structure in the park. Frieze Masters followed in 2012, splitting the historical market off from the contemporary one and effectively doubling the franchise’s footprint in the park without doubling the walk between them. Sister fairs have since opened in New York, Los Angeles, and Seoul, but London remains the original and, for most of the trade, still the most closely watched.

What happens in the tents is only half of Frieze Week. The fair’s opening coincides with a citywide calendar of gallery openings across Mayfair and the East End, a run of museum shows timed to the same audience, and Frieze Sculpture, a free outdoor exhibition of large-scale works installed across the park’s English Gardens for anyone to walk through without a ticket. For a city with no single gallery district, Frieze Week is the closest London gets to concentrating its entire art world into one place at one time.
