New Museum Triennial 2027 — Dates & Theme

Dates: 4 February – 16 May 2027
Location: New Museum, New York City, USA
Type: Triennial

Titled “The Outside Expands,” the sixth New Museum Triennial is co-curated by New Museum curator Vivian Crockett and Isabella Rjeille, a curator at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) in Brazil. The exhibition’s title references a 1979 street intervention by the Brazilian collective 3NÓS3, whose message — “What is inside remains, what is outside expands” — frames a show built around artists who question fixed notions of territory and identity. It is the museum’s first triennial since reopening in its expanded building in March 2026, and brings together 36 artists and collectives representing 34 nations.
