9th Yokohama Triennale 2027 — Dates & Directors
Now in its 27th year since launching in 2001, the Yokohama Triennale returns for a 9th edition led by artistic directors Cosmin Costinaș and Inti Guerrero — the curatorial pair who also directed the 24th Biennale of Sydney in 2024. A title or theme for the 2027 edition had not been announced at the time of writing; the organisers have so far published four guiding goals rather than a theme, framed under the heading “Connecting with People who are Aspiring to Live a Better Tomorrow.”
About the Triennale
Costinaș, born in Satu Mare, Romania, was Senior Curator of Exhibition Practices at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin from 2022 through the end of 2025 and continues there as a curatorial advisor; he previously directed Hong Kong’s Para Site (2011–2022), served as Artistic Director of the Kathmandu Triennale (2022), and co-curated the Romanian Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale. Guerrero, born in Bogotá, Colombia, is an adjunct professor at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, was Artistic Director of Bellas Artes Projects in the Philippines (2018–2021), and was Tate’s Estrellita B. Brodsky Adjunct Curator for Latin American Art (2016–2020). Together they were also guest curators of the 2018 Dakar Biennale.
The 2027 edition is organised by the City of Yokohama, the Yokohama Arts Foundation, Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) and The Asahi Shimbun, and is timed to coincide with GREEN×EXPO 2027, a Yokohama-hosted exposition whose stated vision — “coexistence with nature” — the Triennale says it will share and help realise.
