Type: International Exhibition (held every five years)

documenta 16 is the sixteenth edition of the major contemporary art exhibition held in Kassel, Germany roughly every five years since 1955. Naomi Beckwith, deputy director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, was appointed artistic director in December 2024 by documenta’s international Finding Committee. The appointment follows documenta 15 (2022), whose run drew sustained controversy over antisemitism allegations against some participating artists; as of Beckwith’s appointment, no title or curatorial theme for the 2027 edition had been made public.
