BIOGRAPHY
Daniel Bilmes was born in 1989 in Oregon, USA, and works as a contemporary painter based in Los Angeles. His practice combines realism with symbolism and abstraction — long brushstrokes and scraped paint layers build tactile, hand-drawn-looking surfaces, balancing the magical and the mundane, the hopeful and the brooding.

He began formal art training at age 8 under his father, artist and educator Semyon Bilmes, studying and later teaching at the family’s art school in Southern Oregon, which relocated to Maui, Hawaii in 2010 as Atelier Maui. He completed roughly ten years of study before moving into professional exhibiting.
