BIOGRAPHY
Tuğçe Arıöz (b. 1985, Ankara, Turkey) is a Circassian-Turkish artist based between Istanbul, Ankara, and Bursa. She studied Art History at Hacettepe University, graduating in 2011, then spent several years directing and art-directing for film, television, and documentary before oil paint, digital collage, and video became her primary language. More recently, AI-assisted tools have entered that language too — not as a shortcut, she says, but “another way of asking the same old questions: what’s real, what’s memory, what gets left behind when a story is told.”

She calls her approach the “Art of Imperfection”: looking at an image without hunting for what’s wrong with it, and pushing a generative model toward error on purpose, because she is more interested in the gap between her intention and the machine’s accident than in what the technology does perfectly. “I’m much more interested in what can happen somewhere between control and chance,” she has said of the process. Recurring threads in her work include Circassian heritage and braided hair as a structural motif, memory and the subconscious, and — in her own words — “quantum physics, Sufism, collective rituals, and sociophysics.”
