For years, the pianist had avoided a single key that made no sound at all. One day a mermaid set one of her yellow scales down on top of it, and the elephant answered with a single breath from his trunk. The cellist joined them on a note she had never played before. For seven seconds, the sea remembered what it felt like to be one body.
