The elephant had forgotten how to dream, so the angel stitched a dream into the lining of her red dress. Every night she pulled one more thread loose and tied it to his ear. On the forty-first night, the elephant dreamed he had grown small enough to sleep inside a single seashell. Afterward, the angel folded the empty dress — it was the lightest thing she had ever carried.
